The Health Benefits Of Matcha

It is a challenge to present something that can be both an epicurean experience and a superfood, which is possibly the most healthy substance one could put in one's body. No food or beverage has ever been able to make these claims. While great wines are one of the greatest pleasures in life, excessive consumption can cause adverse health effects.

Superfoods include pomegranate and wild blueberries, acai, and mackerel. They are healthy and delicious but they don't qualify as "transcendental epicurean experiences" in the same way that, for example, a glass of Romanee Conti. The best-quality matcha brew can be compared to drinking Romanee Conti. It also offers at least 10x as many health benefits as superfoods.

Here are some basic facts about matcha.

  • There are a lot of antioxidants in this product, which act as anti-inflammatory agents and antiviral agents. ORAC (oxygen radiation absorbance capacity) units can be used to measure the antioxidant content of foods.

  • There are many ways to break down "antioxidants" but the key antioxidant is actually a flavonoid/catechin called EGCG. Matcha is full of EGCGs. Matcha has 140x more EGCGs than regular green tea. This is due to the fact that matcha can be consumed whole.

Matcha, in short, is a bajillion (to put it in scientific language) more beneficial than other teas. All the action is found within the leaves that are savored and then swallowed.
